  1. During the pre-email era, the handwritten letters we've received from loved ones are treasured mementos of our lives and relationships while during the era of email and instant messaging, such letters are often disparaged as an outmoded system and have become increasingly rare.

  2. Before there was e-mail receiving and sending letters are normal and very common. It helps the writer to improve his hand writing. It also improves one's patience when waiting for an expected reply. Now, receiving letters is rare and instead e-mails constantly flood your inbox. This makes our handwriting decrease in quality. This also makes us very impatient as we expect the reply to come immediately.

  3. Before e-mails were introduced, letters were the most popular way of speaking to a person by written language or writing a letter to someone whether it is formal or informal. After e-mail was introduced, people thought that typing a letter is much more better than writing it with our hands on a piece of paper. People also knew that after writing a letter, posting them through the postbox charge them a certain amount of money. But, writing a letter in a email and sending does not cost them any money. If you post letters through the postbox, it takes sometime to reach that person but if you email the letter it would be send the next second. So this is how technology has affected written correspondence.

  4. Before there was e-mail, sending letters were very common. People treasured the letters their friends or family written to them because it is hand written and it is like a memento. After e-mail was introduced, letter-writing became outdated as using the email is faster and it does not require you to pay money to have it sent. Because of this, the e-mails are not treasured as it is very common and not handwritten. This is how technology affected written correspondence.

  16. Technology has definitely affected written correspondence, both in negative and positive "ways". In the positive areas, it has enabled us to have a free and instant universal way of communicating with other people, verbally as well as non-verbally. On the negative side, it in a way, "discourages" face-to-face communication and makes people communicate lesser with other people verbally.
